Reduce Hiberfil.sys Size In Windows, The hiberfil.sys file is used for hibernation in Windows and can take up a significant amount of disk space. You can reduce or disable it using the following methods:

Method 1: Reduce Hiberfil.sys Size

  1. Open Command Prompt as Administrator:
    • Press Win + R, type cmd, and press Ctrl + Shift + Enter to open as administrator.
  2. Run the following command:
    powercfg /hibernate /size 50
    • This reduces the hibernation file to 50% of the default size.
    • The minimum allowed is 40%.

Method 2: Disable Hibernation (If Not Needed)

If you don’t use hibernation, you can disable it to remove hiberfil.sys completely.

  1. Open Command Prompt as Administrator.
  2. Run this command:
    powercfg /hibernate off
  3. Restart your PC.

This will delete hiberfil.sys, freeing up disk space.
